Emma Wilson – visual artist
I am freelance visual arts practitioner living and working in far west Cornwall.
Since 2000, alongside my own studio practice, I have been planning, managing and delivering art workshops within community, education and gallery settings.
I am passionate about the role of creativity and the arts in a child’s learning and development. I believe that the Arts reinforces and supports the five outcomes of the Every Child Matters Agenda.
I have used the arts to engage unmotivated, vulnerable, at risk children and young people as well as work with young people and adults with a broad range of learning difficulties and special needs.
My role as an artist within education has varied greatly from being asked to deliver a very specific workshop using certain materials within a class, being placed into a school as an artist in residence or working with groups in art galleries.
I am experienced in responding to curriculum needs and particularly enjoy using an art-focused, cross-curricular method of teaching.
I have been responsible for setting up a successful model of working based on Room 13 (http://room13international.org) within the charity Trelya.
I am very keen to share this model of working and would love to see other Studios successfully up and running within other settings, as I believe the results can be both rewarding for young people and staff alike.
