Primary Art Forum
The Primary Art Forum is a grouping of teachers, Art ASTs both primary and secondary, artists and arts organisations such as the Tate,St Ives and Newlyn Art Gallery. It is co-ordinated by KEAP.
Our aims are to support the development of the teaching of Art in schools, to create a network between those engaged in the delivery of Art education whether that be in the classroom, in a gallery or on the beach, the Forum is also the link between the Local Authority and the delivery of Art education.
To date we have:
- Undertaken a trial of a curriculum for Art, the Scottish Borders Scheme of Work for Art, in two clusters, SKILL and Carland. This has been evaluated by the Learning Forum and will be rolled out to all interested schools in the Autumn Term. KEAP has 2 copies of the scheme which schools are welcome to borrow Tel 01872 275187
- Developed a programme of creative digital training for primary teachers with Gary Henderson, ICT advisor and Tony Minnion, freelance artist www.clothofgold.org.uk. This is now available on a regular basis through Pondhu House 01872 323300
- Delivered in partnership with Cornwall CPD a Primary Art conference in June 2006
- Co-ordination of The John Betjeman Centenary Celebration Art Competition for Primary Schools
In the pipeline:
- The roll out of the Scottish Borders Scheme of Work for Art with Cornwall CPD
- A training programme for artists, art-trained parents, teaching assistants who are interested in running after school art clubs
- An exploration of the potential of Room 13 in Cornish schools.
In parallel to the Primary Art Forum there are 2 Secondary Art Steering Groups which organise joint projects and the annual Heads of Department Art conference.
