I am a physical theatre/yoga practitioner/teacher and have worked a lot with teenagers and undergraduates aiming to develop the physical theatre skills of students with a clear eye upon ways in which they can use the material creatively in devising and performing.
We work to integrate breath, body and voice to encourage a sense of awareness that builds the trust and confidence that’s vital to lifting, rolling, jumping, those elements of contact improvisation that demand students take risks. I firmly believe that with awareness comes response-ability to self and others, which in turn encourages creative experimentation and, ultimately, quality performances. When teaching yoga I bring the creative energy of the theatre to dynamic sessions designed to be inspiring, joyful and ultimately soothing.
Drama and yoga have become integrated into playful regular sessions: YOGA PLAY has poses integrated into exciting adventure stories and games for children up to 6; YOGA POSERS challenges older children to try more complex yoga sequences in pairs or with music; YOGA MOVES is for ages 13-17, and designed to bring the body into balance. Classes build confidence and provide vital space for young people to grow with their bodies. Essentially I seek to teach from a heart filled with laughter.
