Denis Kigongo- African drumming

My name is Denis Kigongo (pronounced as Chigongo). My name in the Baganda culture means elder brother to twins.

I learnt the drumming and stories and craft making skills that I share as a child growing up in Uganda. I am from Busu, a small village on the shores of Lake Victoria, near the source of the River Nile. I trained as a teacher in Uganda and as a youth worker in the UK .

My speciality is African drumming. The emphasis is very much hands on and every one can participate irrespective of his or her musical background. The workshops I run are guaranteed to be fun and create a real buzz in the school. The typical day will be divided into groups of 25 to 30, with each session lasting between 45 minutes to an hour. The workshops are flexible and will be tailored to the needs of each group.
