• Local environment – using local materials
• Sustainability issues
• Developing the school garden & the grounds
The school has been writing these themes into their curriculum with each teacher thinking of ways to incorporate more creativity into the curriculum across the areas of focus; local environment, being more sustainable & environmentally friendly & how they can increase the opportunities for outdoor learning & play by developing their grounds.

The lead ‘Artist in Residence’ would work alongside a guest artist each day, to help bring different skills & ideas to the week.
Some mediums & skills the school would like to explore through the week, (although the school are open to exploring a range of creative skills & activities):
• Mural/graffiti/outdoor painting & art
• Using recycled, reclaimed & found materials
• Outdoor music
• Mosaic
• Representing natural elements; earth, water, wind & fire
Throughout the week the school would like to offer opportunities to involve parents in activities, this could be end of school sessions or during the day.

RIO - Practitioners experienced in cross art form approach needed - deadline 6 March 2010
As part of the RIO Virtual Schools Devon Project a group of young people in care from four secondary schools in Exeter will be exploring creative and effective ways of communicating with the professionals that work with them.
We are looking for practitioners who are able to work with a cross art form approach, enabling the young people to explore what they want to say and who they want to say it to.
The aim is to work with the group to devise a small scale performance/event/installation for a sharing day. It is hoped that some of the work will be in a form that can be exhibited or disseminated after this. Young people have expressed an interest in working with a range of practitioners including musicians/songwriters, rappers, dancers, performers and digital media artists.
Four half day sessions are scheduled to take place weekly in Exeter from the end of April followed by a sharing day at the end of May. There may be the possibility of scheduling some extra sessions out of school time.
Practitioners need to have a flexible, young person led, collaborative approach and experience of working with vulnerable, at risk groups. The confidence to develop work within a short time frame is also required.
Current CRB check and public liability insurance essential.
Applications are encouraged from individual artists or groups of artists in a range of disciplines meeting the above criteria.
Fees in the region of £100 per half day/£175.00 per day dependent on experience.
To apply email CV and covering letter to Claudia Hope at claudiahope@hotmail.co.uk by noon Friday 6th March. Interviews will take place the following week.
Please email Claudia if you need any more information.

Call for Artist proposals - deadline 12 March 2010
For the fourth year in succession Embark: Ferry Art is looking for seven emerging artists to exhibit on a monthly basis on-board the King Harry Ferry.
Artists' work (existing or realising new material) should address contemporary issues that are pertinent within the region; environmental, social and economical. Proposals should be no more than 300-words and should outline how artists’ practice would relate visually and conceptually in this rural setting - outlining how the work will engage with an audience of over 500 passengers each day that might not normally visit a traditional gallery space.
The final work should be effectively reproduced in two-dimensional print form as shows will be printed onto a foamex panel for use in frames on-board ferry; suggested art forms would include lens-based imagery, digital works, documentation of performance / installation works etc.
University College Falmouth and Fotonow hopes that the venue will continue to provide a valuable platform to exhibit early career artists and raise awareness of issues that are being explored within each artist’s practice. Final artworks will also appear on all Fal River Links services as postcards advertising the main King Harry Ferry shows.
The project is keen to support emerging graduate artists and so would continue to welcome submissions from alumni. Selected artists will also be invited to run an art-workshop within the community during their
exhibition; allowing local schools, young people and the wider community to engage further with the project.
This will be optional and Fotonow and University College Falmouth will offer assistance to artists with less experience running such sessions.
Work Required:
? Exhibition Proposal (300 words)
? Artist CV
? CD with 10 images (JPG) of works proposed for showing (although final show may consist of new works if time and commission fee allows)
Send to: EMBARK SUBMISSION, Fotonow, King Harry Ferry, Feock, Nr Truro, Cornwall, TR3 6QJ
Deadline: 12th March 2010
Artist Fee: £200 (additional fees for delivery of workshop sessions)

Have your poetry read by The Literary Consultancy - Free Read scheme - deadline 11 March 2010
Arts Council England, South West and Cyprus Well are working together over the next two months to offer 10 poets in the South West region the opportunity to have their poetry read by The Literary Consultancy. TLC is one of the UK’s leading manuscript assessment services, and provides expert, market-aware editorial advice to writers at all levels writing in English.
TLC receive funding nationally from Arts Council England to run the Free Reads scheme which enables them to offer their normal manuscript appraisal service for free to a limited number of talented writers in each region who otherwise might not be able to afford their services.
Rebecca Swift, TLC: *Wherever you want to try to place your work, it makes sense to have it critiqued by a professional. Informed feedback can only help you refine your own thoughts about what you are achieving or otherwise.*
Tracey Guiry, Director, Cyprus Well:
*Cyprus Well is delighted to be working in partnership with Arts Council England and TLC to provide these bursaries. The chance to have your work read by a professional is one of the best ways to develop your craft.*
If you are a poet based in the South West and would like to be considered for a Free Read as part of the 2009/2010 scheme the first stage is to send the following to Cyprus Well.
• A short sample of the work that you want to be assessed by TLC - up to 100 lines
• A short summary of the full work you would submit if selected at this first stage i.e. giving details of overall length of manuscript or number of poems - this must not exceed 1000 lines. Selected manuscripts will need to include a line count for each poem submitted and a total line count before final submission to TLC.
• Short statement saying why a Free Read would be useful to you at this stage in your career as a writer
• Full name, address, telephone and e-mail address.
Please submit applications by post to: TLC Free Read Application, Cyprus Well, Exeter Central Library, Castle Street, Exeter, EX4 3PQ
All submissions should be double-spaced, in a 12pt font, and printed on one side of the A4 page. Each page should be marked with your contact details. If you need your work returned you will need to enclose an SAE. Otherwise, we will recycle your submission. We will notify all poets of the outcome of the initial submission; if you are chosen for a Free Read we will also telephone you as soon as possible after the deadline date with details of what to do next. Unfortunately, due to the high volume of initial submissions, we will be unable to provide feedback on unsuccessful applications.
Deadline – Thursday 11 March 2009. Website; http://www.cypruswell.org/

The Nick Darke Award 2010 - deadline 12 March 2010
The Nick Darke award was conceived in 2006 by Jane Darke and Cornwall County Council with the aim of celebrating and supporting a writer. It aims to achieve this by awarding the writer a sum of money which will allow time to work, and offer some support through the development process.
Nick Darke wrote in many forms but earned his living in the world of theatre, screen and radio. As this award is intended to contribute financially to the life of a writer, we have decided to make the award in one of these disciplines.
We are asking writers to submit work that pursues an environmental theme – to reflect Nick Darke’s lifelong commitment to this issue, and within one of the following four disciplines:
- Stage play
- Screenplay
- Radio play
- Documentary film
The Nick Darke Award has been developed by Nick Darke’s wife, the artist and film maker Jane Darke, with the support of Nick Darke’s family. It is funded by University College Falmouth’s School of Media and The Works (Dance & Theatre Cornwall Ltd.), and supported by KEAP (Kernow Education Arts Partnership). It is being administered by University College Falmouth.

MA Art & Environment - October 2010 - Falmouth
For centuries artists have interpreted and represented the natural environment. It has provided materials and subject matter, as well as inspiration and knowledge.
In recent times - particularly since the growth of the environmental movement - there has been a dramatic change in our understanding of the many ways our society impacts upon the Earth. This awareness has galvanised around the fact that the relationship between humanity and our life-giving planet is in a critical state.
This change in knowledge has been reflected in contemporary art practice. MA Art & Environment, at UniversityCollege Falmouth, encourages a focused engagement with ecological and environmental issues. Designed to give you the skills, expertise and confidence to operate as a professional artist in this critical area of practice, the course will also enable you to develop strategies and practices that use art as a cultural agent - as a tool for knowledge, understanding and change.
Students on the course have opportunities to benefit from our relationship with Cape Farewell, The Eden Project and University of Exeter's Environment and Sustainability Institute.
