Calling School and Community Choirs! Big Sing on the Beach at Watergate – 15 June 2012

You are cordially invited to be part of The Big Sing on the Beach at Watergate 2012.  This is an event which shares and celebrates song and the power of singing together in an extraordinarily beautiful place.

Now in its 3rd year we are hoping that this event becomes a key date in the Cornish choral calendar.  Last year nine community choirs all gathered together on the beach for a very enjoyable evening of song.

Key elements

Each choir sings two pieces from their own repertoire.  It would be good if one piece had a participation element – our experience last year was everyone loved the chance to join in.  If the songs make reference to the natural elements then that would be good, also in this Olympic year something with the Olympic values of excellence, determination, courage, respect, friendship, equality and inspiration.

At the end all the choirs join together to sing The Lobster Song and The Mighty Ocean by Jim Carey and Nick Darke (the music is down loadable from www.nickdarke.net) and other suggested Cornish repertoire.

The event takes place on the beach, there is a stage and a PA.  It is normally windy and we will go ahead unless the weather is atrocious.

There will be plenty of food and drink available to buy on the beach.  Cornwall Youth Dance Company will perform and we are planning an artist-led installation.  We are also inviting a brass band to join the event.

We are starting earlier this year in order to invite school choirs as well and envisage them performing first and then the community choirs from 7.00/7.30 to give people time to get there.

The event normally finishes at about 9.00/9.30pm

If you are interested in being part of this event please register your interest with Dave Hunter  odhunter@tiscali.co.uk by the end of February 2012.

We really look forward to singing with you!
