New and exciting free training for singing leaders in Cornwall

This is a FREE Training programme for potential singing leaders working with primary aged children from June 2009 to February 2010. You can be a primary school teacher, male voice choir member, folk musician, singing leader…

The programme includes practical twilight sessions for planning, and introducing repertoire for you to use with children, special focus days with visiting practitioners who are expert vocal leaders, and cross sector visits so you can learn from and get experiences from other members of the programme.

The intial meeting was held in June 2009 and currently the people involved in the programme include primary teachers, vocal teachers, choirs, male voice choirs, arts organisations, and musicians so there are plenty of people to learn from and share expertise!

Vocal Force deliver inclusive, learner-centred training for leaders singing with primary-age children in 60 target areas across England. Vocal Force is delivered as part of Sing Up. We are delighted to be able to offer a Vocal Force programme led by CUMPAS, in Cornwall, commencing in April 2009.

This is a FREE training opportunity for potential leaders of singing in the Cornish Folk and Male Voice Choir traditions as well as teachers and TAs.

Vocal Force aims to encourage and exemplify healthy, musical singing within primary education as well as develop a broad repertoire base using singing in the context of the whole curriculum, working to encourage schools to become singing communities.
The Vocal Force emphasis is on providing training, skills, repertoire and networks for those who lead singing with primary age children or who are interested in developing their confidences and abilities in order to lead singing with this group.

A series of training sessions over a year will be delivered by Cumpas, a charity promoting Cornish culture through music, song, dance and language.

Topics covered will include:

• Embedded partnership working and peer-learning;
• The drawing together of vocal leaders from a wide range of backgrounds;
• Inclusive, learner-centred approaches to singing culture;
• Vocal techniques and how to encourage and exemplify healthy, musical singing;
• How to develop a broad and inclusive repertoire base;
• Singing in the context of the whole curriculum;
• Whole class and whole school delivery.
