The exhibition and auction are part of an ongoing project in Boskenwyn & Germoe schools ‘picture a place called home’. This project has emerged from the Cornwall schools’ partnership with Jana Udaya School in Kathmandu, through the charity Global Action Nepal. GAN’s EASEL Programme supports schools in the UK to develop strong and meaningful links with schools in Nepal that were affected by the 2015 earthquakes, to engage in cultural exchange and shared learning experiences with their partner school, and to fundraise to assist with their partner school’s reconstruction and recovery.
Children at all three schools have created artwork on the theme of ‘home’ which will be exhibited on Fri 21st and Sat 22nd July at Porthmeor Studios, St Ives alongside artwork which has been generously donated by local artists including Sam Basset, Catherine Hyde, Carla Regler, Ali Corder, David Stamp, Kieran Rule and Jessica Harbutt. The artwork will be auctioned on Sat 22nd July by David Lay FRICS at 6pm. Tickets for the auction are £5 and can be purchased from Porthmeor Studios and from Cornish Riviera Box Office. The auction catalogue can be viewed here, where advance bids can also be taken from people unable to attend on the night.
Proceeds from the event will go to Global Action Nepal’s projects in schools that were affected by the 2015 earthquakes (including Jana Udaya School). A contribution from proceeds will also be made to Growing Links ‘Street Food’ project, which feeds the homeless, rough sleepers and vulnerably housed in Penzance.
