Full Circle Weekend: Creative Immersion workshops in Dance, Voice, Film
VENUES: The Hurlers Stone Circles, Minions, Liskeard, Cornwall, PL14 5LE, and at Upton Cross Village Hall PL14 5AN
DATES: 22 September – 24 September 2017
The Full Circle: Creative Immersion weekend offers voice, dance and film practitioners a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in an amazing landscape – high up on Bodmin Moor and by The Hurlers stone circles – using it as inspiration for their creative practice.
Two parallel workshops bring movement and voice together to facilitate an experimental creative response to the ancient site of The Hurlers stone circles on Bodmin Moor through guided tasks and improvisations led by practitioners Lois Taylor and Gerry Hillman. With an introduction to the site’s history and astrological alignments by Brian Sheen from Roseland Observatory, the two groups will find new inspirations and responses, sonic and choreographic connections, working sometimes indoors and sometimes on site at The Hurlers to create a shared score inspired by the site and by each other. Sat 23rd Sept, 10-5.30, Sun 24th Sept 10-1pm with sharing afterwards.
Robert Schaller, of the Handmade Film Institute in Colorado, will also be leading a special one-day handmade film workshop relating to the ancient astronomical relevance of the moor and the site on Sat 23rd Sept. Please see http://mayescreative.com/ for full details.
The Full Circle weekend begins with an opening celebratory Equinox Event on Friday evening, followed by the workshops and a public sharing on Sunday 2-3pm as part of the Singing Up The Stones event. A ticket can be bought for the whole weekend, including all events (join us camping at Cheesewring Farm on the edge of the moors), or for a single workshop or event if preferred.
Research into The Hurlers suggests they align with the positions and movements of the sun and stars. The FULL CIRCLE immersive weekend takes place around the Autumnal Equinox when special alignments occur with the rising sun, making this the perfect place to consider our current and historic relationship with the stars and planets.
DARK SKIES: BRIGHT STARS is a Mayes Creative project, bringing together heritage partners and creative practitioners to explore the exciting history of astronomy in Cornwall. All workshops and events are kindly subsidised by Heritage Lottery Fund & FEAST. A unique creative opportunity not to be missed!
