Steve Hunton  - Visual artist

M.A. R.C.A.

Because my own work in fine art has always ranged between representation and experiment and between painting and sculpture. I have acquired a great variety of skills using many different materials and practices.

Art in education gives an opportunity for myself and those I work with to produce art free from the constraints of the market and to put the emphasis on personal development.

The ability to absorb new information and through the use of real practical skills to translate it in a concentrated form, can bring out thrilling results from any group of individuals, irrespective of age ability or experience. CV can be downloaded here.

Reece Ingram - Sculptor

I have over 20 years experience as a sculptor since graduating with an MA in Site Specific Sculpture. I have worked on many Public Commissions throughout the UK, within Cornwall, on the Eden Project and the Redruth Regeneration Scheme. My main materials are wood and stone. My interests are in form and mass taken from the natural world although I have taken on industrial and scientific themes depending upon the commission or residency.

Throughout this time, working with schools has been integral to my practise. I have experience of working with students of all ages and abilities, from Yr 1 to University level. Together we have used wood, stone, plaster, clay, cloth and drawing. I have collaborated in workshops with writers and scientists.

I like to provide, in association with teachers, a well structured programme, to be adaptable to their requirements in order that the students may achieve something beyond their expectations.
I have won a National Art Works Award (with Falmouth School) and a Unilever Dragonfly Award for work with Cheshire schools.

Scott Walker- Visual Artist and Cartoonist

As an artist I am inspired largely by the natural world as well as comic and cartoon imagery.

My experience in schools has taught me that by kindling students’ imaginations and tapping into their inherent enthusiasm for exploration, I can provide a platform where even self-conscious artists can exercise their agency, ask questions and enhance their visual arts skills.

By experimenting with unique cut-out shapes to create fantastic 2D-creatures, students enjoy instant and surprising results, individually or in groups. Deconstructing and drawing the shapes makes the artistic process accessible to all abilities. The artworks can then be kept for display and/or future classroom development (to date used in science, literacy and creative writing).

Developing the creatures further into fully formed cartoon characters can greatly enhance the artistic experience for students; these can also be montaged together to create a group artwork or graffiti mural.

Recent projects include:
2008 & 2009 National tours of interactive artwall with Network Rail’s ‘No Messin’ railside safety campaign for 7 to 17 year olds; Somerset Arts Week 2009, artist-in-residence at Selworthy Special School; Halterworth Primary School cross-curricular Literacy/Science/Art Project.

Steve Hawker - Music workshops

I run music workshops centred around using music technology, enabling participants to create and perform music in a way that is both fun and produces good results quickly.

Activities include writing songs, creating electronic music, and soundscapes to tell stories with. Using musical instruments, voice, and recording sounds found nearby, the results are woven into music tracks during the workshops. Using Wii remotes to create music using movement provides an accessible and appealing way for people to start creating their own performances even if they've never played an instrument before.

I work in a wide variety of musical styles, from classical and jazz improvisation, to ambient and drum and bass, and lots inbetween! I also have experience working with those with special needs and disabilities, using technology to find ways of creating music that respond to their abilities.

Rosie McKay - physical theatre/yoga practitioner/teacher

I am a physical theatre/yoga practitioner/teacher and have worked a lot with teenagers and undergraduates aiming to develop the physical theatre skills of students with a clear eye upon ways in which they can use the material creatively in devising and performing.

We work to integrate breath, body and voice to encourage a sense of awareness that builds the trust and confidence that’s vital to lifting, rolling, jumping, those elements of contact improvisation that demand students take risks. I firmly believe that with awareness comes response-ability to self and others, which in turn encourages creative experimentation and, ultimately, quality performances. When teaching yoga I bring the creative energy of the theatre to dynamic sessions designed to be inspiring, joyful and ultimately soothing.

Drama and yoga have become integrated into playful regular sessions: YOGA PLAY has poses integrated into exciting adventure stories and games for children up to 6; YOGA POSERS challenges older children to try more complex yoga sequences in pairs or with music; YOGA MOVES is for ages 13-17, and designed to bring the body into balance. Classes build confidence and provide vital space for young people to grow with their bodies. Essentially I seek to teach from a heart filled with laughter.

Penny Macbeth- Visual Artist

Painting workshops

These sessions can be run very successfully at either KS1 or 2. The workshops give children an opportunity to work on a very large scale, which we have observed to be both liberating and challenging. By liaising fully with staff before sessions, we are able to agree visual source material which will support current topical work so that the resulting large scale images allow for exciting classroom or corridor exhibitions with a strong curricular link.

Drawing workshops
By using a series of well tested drawing games (grid drawings, mystery object drawings, fast & moving figure drawings, directional light source, still lives) I engage children with the fascination of the visual world in ways which take the fear out of the process and make it fun and fast moving .

The tutors are CRB checked and experienced in special needs and behaviourally challenged children.

Tom Hyde- Sculptor

The process of working out how a drawing or idea could be made, what it could be made from and the use of tools to create it, is key to the workshops I run in schools. The joy of making a sculpture from found objects, wood, metal and other materials, continues to challenge and inspire me.

I have been working in schools for about 5 years. Projects include driftwood and green wood sculptures and inventions including water and wind sculptures.

I have a sculpture degree, have been CRB checked since 2003, have public liability insurance to run art workshops and hold a current forest school outdoor first aid qualification.

I have attended a British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT) art therapy foundation course in London. I also teach art to adults at Petroc College in Barnstaple and am currently teaching art to adults with mental illness.

Commissions include furniture for the National Trust, work with museums, storytelling chairs, and wood/metal sculptures

Sarah Jarvis - dancer

I am a dancer and dance teacher who, on completing a BA (Hons) in dance theatre from the Laban Centre London in 2002, returned home to Cornwall to work as a freelance performer and teacher. I was a co-founder of C-Scape Dance Company and have worked with them performing and leading workshops for events including Polperro Festival, Landings, Road to the Beach, and the Blonde tour. I have also performed with Manoeuvre Dance, Suzannah West Dance Company and Wildworks Theatre Company.

I offer dance workshops to all ages (from primary to over-50's) in schools and in communities. The work is fun and open to possibility. I aim to set up a relaxed and focussed atmosphere of trust and mutual appreciation where participants can learn about themselves and each other. They can try new ways of moving and try new ways of seeing movement in others. They may look at space, and the body in space, in a new light. We show and talk about our findings. We copy and we also make up new stuff. The work explores individual creative movement potential, shape-finding, stillness, level, direction and dynamic, as well as the different skills needed to create solos, duets and group dances.

The Dream Team - Theatre

Theatre Based Communication and Confidence Boosting Workshops

During the workshops children are encouraged to vividly use their imagination by dramatising a nursery rhyme of their choice. They will work in small groups creating a piece of theatre that they can call their own. Each child will learn how to develop a character and will benefit from feedback given from their fellow classmates/teachers/workshop leader.

At the end of the workshop a sketch performance of each section will be shown to the other children in the workshop allowing them to demonstrate what they have learnt that day.

At all times children will be encouraged to communicate their ideas carefully and literately to each other and the workshop leader.

Our workshops fit easily into the PSHE syllabus. If you have any questions about our workshops, or if you would like to discuss adapting them to fit your specific requirements please do not hesitate in contacting us on 0844 357 2591 or emailing dreamteamtheatre@live.co.uk

cube theatre

We make theatre with and for young people. Our work reflects the world we live in - all our plays are about real people dealing with extraordinary events. We respond to the world around us - we choose stories and characters that speak to young people.

We work with students from secondary schools, colleges, universities and drama schools and have worked with students of GCSE Drama and English, AS and A Level Drama, BTEC Performing Arts, and Foundation Arts Degrees and Creative Diplomas.

Education work is extremely important to us. We believe passionately in creativity and its effects in creating a better community because this enables us to build great theatrically and culturally literate audiences for the future. Always focussing our outreach programme on our current project, we look for ways of promoting self-discovery, empowering both children and adults with improved skills and understanding.

We are fully equipped to deliver our education work; each of our directors has depth of experience in a variety of fields and our artistic director has been delivering education and training for 10 years. We also make use of the special skills of a variety of practitioners chosen for the purpose.

Chartwell Dutiro: Musician, Singer/Song-writer, Composer, Teacher/Mentor

Chartwell Dutiro

Chartwell Dutiro is a rare, all-round musician.  He is as at ease performing as compiling music for TV.  Esteemed as a soloist and ensemble member, Chartwell's skills as a teacher are valued by fellow professional musicians as much as children in school and community.

Chartwell Dutiro uses the mbira as an instrument of education, as well as music, to encompass both traditional and contemporary perspectives; history, culture and identity, geographic location and enviroment are all drawn out through the study of constraction and playing.  Running in parallel.  Chartwell competently sets the mbira and it's music into context, essential in moving away from the 'exotic' associated with musicians from the South.

John Brolly - Storyteller

John tells an eclectic mix of his own original tales and those that have been passed down over the generations, drawing equally from local traditions and far flung and exotic lands. His unique interactive style can make the listener part of the story and you are left in no doubt that each new telling is a version that has never been heard before.

John Brolly specialises in storytelling for all age groups, from Pre-school to Pensioner. He is currently storyteller in residence at St Levan School’s parent and child group. He is a professional actor and director and can turn a simple idea into an epic performance involving a whole school but at the same time reducing the most complex of tales to its simplest basic human emotions.
In John’s hands storytelling is not a passive art form and can spiral into a dynamic experience of music, drama and dance.

James Parkes - Animation projects & workshops

I have worked with primary and secondary schools on animation projects and workshops since 2006.

Animation Projects generally take the form of a short film and can be tailored to your needs.
Shorter projects are structured to focus students on practical animation. Longer projects give students greater involvement in the creative development of their film. From scripting and storyboarding, through model making and animation, to sound and editing, a collaborative team effort is encouraged in the journey from pre-production to post-production.

Animation Workshops instruct students on the craft of animation and culminate in a sequence of animation examples. Shorter workshops teach students the fundamentals of animation; squash and stretch, action and reaction, acceleration and deceleration, mass and speed and basic substitution.
A variety of animation mediums may also be explored; puppet, plasticine, drawn, cut-out, pixilation, rotoscope and sand-on-glass. Longer workshops explore and develop character animation skills and enable students to more effectively plan and execute their work.
